level up: using touch

A tacile cueing workshop for movement instructors with regarding form

May 5, 2023 — Berlin

re:form believes that the conscientious movement instructor is always exploring new ways to enrich the learning experience of their students. Just as important as what we teach, how we disseminate information plays an enormous role in that experience. While tactile cueing — the use of touch — is an often underutilized resource, it has the potential to be a highly potent tool in our kit.

In this 4 hour in-studio workshop, re:form shares strategies for using our sense of touch with intelligence and respect for our student’s autonomy. We’ll review some relevant anatomical concepts and discuss how our understanding of what we see can influence what, when, and how we use tactile cues to help students find their own way to deepening a posture or refining their alignment.

This workshop is for movement instructors of any modality who want to improve their tactile communication skills with creativity, precision, and compassion.

applied movement anatomy (AMA) with regarding form

September 30-October 2, 2022 — Online Course

re:form’s Applied Movement Anatomy workshop is an essential exploration of the fundamental musculoskeletal anatomy that fosters human movement. Now available in an entirely virtual format, this 13-hour course is a must for movement instructors and enthusiasts who want to know how the theoretical understanding of movement can be applied to and enrich movement experience in real life. We will identify and study the joints and tissues responsible for global movement by bringing awareness to relevant structures, muscles, and relationships in our own bodies, as well as give functional context to how these actions apply to a range of movements across a variety of fitness and movement disciplines.

In addition to identifying structures and relationships in your own body, you will learn fundamental joint actions, and put all this knowledge to work in a functional context. Applying this information, we learn to develop visual assessment skills, identify common misalignments, and will unpack a wide array general implications to build an arsenal of productive exercise modifications. You will examine some of the structures involved in respiration and learn how this anatomy can facilitate (or derail) functional breathing patterns in exercise. You will also come to a definitive understanding of the industry’s most ubiquitous yet misunderstood term: The Core.

This workshop is required for participants in re:form’s signature Barre Teacher Training course, but is an indispensable primer for movement instructors and enthusiasts of any modality and can therefore be attended as a separate course.
